Q:Do I need a payroll service for one employee?
A:
If you have one employee that is a W2 employee, then yes. Technically, even if you are the sole employee, payroll taxes must be paid. Sometimes the term "employee" is used for 1099 contractors. That is not correct. We are only identifying an "employee" of the company as someone who has a W2 employee status. Depending on what business structure you set up your business with, there are other factors, but all W2 employees must adhere to federal and state laws for payroll. At The Bookkeeper, we work directly with your accountant to ensure that all of your books coincide with your payroll and that everything is recorded accurately.
